A couple were holidaying in Tasmania when they fell in love with this piece of Huon Pine. The colour, the grain, everything in the timber gave them a feeling they couldn’t walk away from. They decided to bring it back to Brisbane and have it made into a functional furniture piece they could continue to admire in their home.
Finer Living were able to transform their treasure into a unique piece that highlights the colour and grain, while remaining functional, unique and stylish.
Matthew suggested contrasting a darker timber against the Huon pine to highlight the natural colours in the pine and this works wonderfully. Using a cross leg design in French Walnut added contrast and timber inlays were also incorporated along the sides to a solid Walnut back. This leads the eye around the piece and back to the solid timber handles at the front. Each drawer is made from French Oak and are mitre joined to the top, making it look like it is made from one solid section.
The owners said they wanted something they could hand down through the family to keep their love of the timber alive, and Matthew had this in mind when designing the desk. The owners are over the moon with their find from Tasmania now being a desk that can be treasured forever.
